All good things come to an end
I'm packing to move continents yet again and closing off my Australian chapter in about 2 weeks so I thought I'd pay a tribute to the Aussie stuff I'd miss the most.
- Bundaberg ginger beer. None of that ginger ale crap I used to drink in the States. This is the real deal.
- The burning summer sun. I can get tanned in less than an hour outside.
- Proper breakfast/dinner on Qantas domestic flights. Ain't getting any of that on other airlines.
- The awesome beaches so close to the city.
- Seeing the Opera House every time I cross the Harbour Bridge.
- The abundance of authentic asian food. No General Tso's chicken nonsense.
- My brother being a 2 hour plane ride away. But then again, when he graduates, he'd be somewhere far away anyway.
- Tight-assed Tuesdays.
- Food courts
- Hero Salad's japanese sesame dressing (can't believe I'm saying I like salads)
I'm sure I'll have more later. It's been a great ride. Thanks mateys!
Golden Hour
I first realized how bright bright sun could mess with picture taking when I got to Oz. Taking a picture at 3pm in Chicago produces vastly different results compared to one taken in Oz. I've usually tried not to take pictures at midday when the sun is at its strongest but my colleague Chris (Thanks Chris!) recently enlightened me about the concept of Golden Hour, which is the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset in which one can achieve a specific kind of lighting for your pictures. Some would say that it is the best time to take pictures.
Another thing I learned this weekend, ALWAYS wear a hat when you're out in the sun in Oz during the summer. ALWAYS!
